Google Pixel 7a: From specs to design, we know everything
Google recently confirmed that its upcoming annual developer’s conference (I/O 2023) will kick off on May 10th. Google is likely to introduce Android 14 and a few other things at the event. The company is also expected to announce its next affordable smartphone – the Pixel 7a – powered by the Tensor G2 processor.
The Pixel 7a will be a successor to the Pixel 6a and is expected to look almost identical while packing a major hardware upgrade in terms of almost everything. As we learned earlier, just like the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, the Pixel 7a will be based on Google’s latest Tensor G2 processor, possibly paired with at least 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Leaked renders suggest that the display on the Pixel 7a might look similar to the one on the Pixel 6a. However, the upcoming model is said to offer a 6.1-inch OLED panel with up to a 90Hz refresh rate along with an improved fingerprint sensor. Not just that, it might even get improved glass protection to prevent accidental damage. In terms of build quality, we might continue to see a metal frame with a plastic back panel, just like the Pixel 6a and possibly in newer color options.
Unlike Apple, which limits features like always-on-display to pro models, the Pixel 7a will have almost all the software capabilities of a high-end Pixel smartphone. Another major upgrade on the Pixel 7a will be the camera array. Google could finally introduce a high-resolution primary camera on its budget offering, and the Pixel 7a might feature a 64MP primary wide-angle lens (IMX787).
As of now, there is no information on the specifications of the ultra-wide-angle camera and the selfie camera on the Pixel 7a. Another important addition to the Pixel 7a will probably be wireless and reverse wireless charging capabilities on top of regular fast charging. Like its predecessor, the Pixel 7a is also expected to offer ingress protection of at least IP67 for water and dust resistance.
Given the time of launch, the Pixel 7a is likely to ship with Android 13 out-of-the-box. However, this will definitely be one of the first phones to receive an Android 14 update at a later date, and the device should get Android 14 developers beta access like other Pixel smartphones. In terms of pricing, the Pixel 7a could cost around Rs 40,000 in India during launch and could make the Pixel 6a even more affordable.
